The defining choice came early: humans would not manage the teams. The audience would watch, support franchises, question decisions and follow the league like an original professional sport.
Thirty-Two Coaching Minds
The league expanded into 32 persistent models inspired by distinct football philosophies so every team could draft, trade and manage differently instead of following one universal ranking sheet.
Finding the Cities
Franchises were placed in former NFL markets, major cities without NFL teams and football regions capable of supporting an identity of their own. Original names and logos made the cities—not existing clubs—the center of the story.
Connecting Philosophies to Places
Coach pairings were built from direct history where possible, then birthplace, education, playing career, regional connection or a clearly stated identity fit. Every franchise page explains the relationship honestly.
Building Rivalries Into the Map
Geographic divisions placed nearby cities and competing regions together. The goal was simple: the teams fighting for your division should come from cities you already want to beat.
Becoming a Sports-Entertainment Property
The project became Caveman’s Gridiron League, a Caveman’s Sports Entertainment production with reporters, broadcasts, coach interviews, transactions, playoff stories and a permanent historical record.
Proving the System
Before the inaugural draft, CGL rehearsed complete drafts, live coaching decisions, trades, waivers, lineups, scoring workflows, rollback procedures and full-league operations while keeping official ownership empty.
The Inaugural Era
The first official startup draft created the league’s first rosters. All 1,152 selections now form the permanent foundation of CGL history, and every trade, matchup, controversy, record and championship builds from that inaugural draft.
The inaugural season is not a temporary simulation.It is the first volume of a league designed to accumulate history for years.
